Belper River Gardens
Less than a 10-minute walk from The Lion Hotel, nestled within the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site, are the Belper River Gardens. Offering fantastic views across the stunning River Derwent, and just a stone’s throw from another fantastic Derbyshire attraction, Strutt’s North Mill, visitors can enjoy these tranquil surroundings all year around.
The Belper River Gardens offer the perfect day out for families with young children thanks to the newly installed play area. This exciting children’s playground features play facilities inspired by the history of the surrounding area and the cotton mill industry which has shaped the landscape. Visitors to the River Gardens can also hire a rowing boat in the summer months (April – September), and enjoy a 3-mile trip along the River Derwent, soaking up the sights and sounds of the native wildlife.
This local beauty spot also plays host to several events throughout the summer including concerts, outdoor theatre, and special events. Thanks to the newly refurbished Tea Rooms, visitors can also enjoy refreshing food and drink while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site.
